Speech and Language Therapy for Children
Parents often find it difficult to determine whether their child requires the help of a Speech-Language Pathologist (speech therapist). All children are unique, finding their own special path to discovering their voice.
What Is Speech Therapy?

Speech-Language Pathologists focus on helping children communicate effectively which is an essential aspect to quality of life.  Speech, language and cognitive disorders can affect school performance, family relationships and social interaction.  Treatments that Speech-Language Pathologists are uniquely qualified to provide can help children with expressive and receptive language delays, articulation, fluency, voice, resonance and cognitive communication disorders to reach their full potential.

*Speech and Language Therapy Services are provided through Kids Clinic's partnership with Speech Therapy Centres of Canada.

How Do I know if My Child Needs Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy for toddlers and children is not uncommon. Children as young as 18 months old can benefit from visiting a Speech-Language Pathologist. (*Note that parent training of relevant techniques is often an essential part of speech therapy for children and toddlers).

If you are unsure whether your child requires the assistance of a Speech-Language Pathologist, visit Developmental Milestones to gather a better understanding about what is considered to be normal child developmental.

Who is Speech Therapy Appropriate For?

Speech-Language Pathologists are highly trained regulated health care professionals who help children with stuttering, literacy, speech and language delay or communication challenges as a result of Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADD, ADHD, Learning Disorders or delays and Acquired Brain Injury.

Speech-Language Pathologists can help children communicate more effectively. We do this by assisting with the mechanics of speech (breathing correctly, proper placement of the tongue, use of the voice box or the language of speech (structuring sentences properly, formulating complete thoughts and expressing emotion).
